Last week on This American Life, the theme was summer camp. At one point, they had some clips of people who had called in and told stories about camp. I was miffed about the fact that I'd somehow missed the opportunity to call in, but soon realized the show was a repeat. I started thinking about what story I might have had if I had been able to call in, and came up with this one. I went out into the woods with my ipod today and recorded it. Unfortunately, the recording skips, I don't know why. It is annoying at times, but I think that the story is still clear despite this technical difficulty. So, here's my summer camp story.
The town hall meeting on the Impeachment of Vice President Cheney was held at a nifty establishment called Charlotte Energy Solutions, which specializes in green alternatives to energy sources.
Cindy Sheehan was scheduled to speak, but anyone who follows the news probably knows that she basically retired from activism last week.
One of the evening's highlights was this
inspiring speech given by Reverend Lennox Yearwood of the Hip Hop Caucus.
Here's a picture of the panelists. From left to right they are; David Swanson (co-founder, AfterDowningStreet.org), Al McSurely (civil rights attorney & Grassroots Impeachment Movement), Debra Sweet (National Coordinator, World Can't Wait), Rev. Lennox Yearwood (Pres., Hip Hop Caucus), Lauren Guy McAlpin (World Can't Wait - Greensboro).
